Metallurgist

Location: Myrtle Beach, SC Area

Compensation:  $100,000 to $130,000 plus bonus. Up to $10k reimbursement for relocation.

As a key member of the technical team in a high-demand manufacturing environment, the Metallurgist will play a critical role in supporting melt operations, ensuring quality compliance, and driving process improvements across multiple shifts. This role will require a proactive, hands-on professional committed to safety, collaboration, and operational excellence.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Safety Leadership: Set the standard for a safe, organized workplace by leading by example, ensuring environmental compliance, holding safety talks, conducting daily observations, and completing regular Safety and Housekeeping Audits.
  • Operational Coordination: Work closely with Melt Supervisors to coordinate daily melt operations and support shift-to-shift consistency.
  • Maintenance & Engineering Liaison: Serve as the primary contact for non-AR level melt and RMSB (Raw Material Storage and Batching) maintenance and engineering projects.
  • Backup Operational Support: Provide operational coverage in the absence of Melt Managers, including support for RMSB charge coordination, raw material inventory, chemistry control, and melt processing.
  • Internal Communication Management: Maintain and update the melt department’s internal communication webpage to ensure 24-hour operational visibility and continuity.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Write, review, and revise procedures, work instructions, and ISO 9000 documents for alloy melting processes, ensuring alignment with quality standards and internal protocols.
  • Quality System Involvement: Actively participate in the quality control process, including the resolution of Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
  • Trial Execution & Data Analysis: Coordinate experimental melts and X-trials, collect and analyze data, and collaborate with Melt Managers to interpret results for process improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the department and plant objectives.


Key Success Factors:

  • Effectively communicate safety and performance expectations to melt personnel, reinforcing a culture of accountability.
  • Lead and support digital communication efforts via the melt department’s internal webpage.
  • Actively solicit and integrate feedback from production staff to improve methods, yields, and operational procedures.
  • Routinely review and update melt area ISO documentation to ensure continuous improvement and compliance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other crew leaders to meet production and quality targets.
  • Partner with engineers and metallurgists to execute trials, troubleshoot processes, and implement enhancements.
