Mechanical Engineer

Location: Champaign, IL
Compensation:
Up to $110,000 base + monthly bonus opportunities

About the Role

A growing manufacturing operation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support plant equipment design, reliability improvements, and production efficiency. This is a hands-on engineering role that blends mechanical design work with real-world plant support, equipment upgrades, and process improvements.


What You’ll Do

  • Design, modify, and improve mechanical equipment and production systems.
  • Create and maintain mechanical drawings, layouts, and design packages using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Support capital projects—including equipment installation, vendor coordination, and start-up assistance.
  • Troubleshoot chronic mechanical issues and identify long-term solutions to improve reliability.
  • Partner closely with production and maintenance teams to enhance uptime and reduce mechanical failures.
  • Lead mechanical portions of preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Maintain and update equipment/utility drawings, documentation, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen, root-cause analysis, and safety improvements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (strongly preferred) and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of machine design, tolerances, fabrication, and mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, utilities, etc.).
  • Experience supporting plant equipment, troubleshooting issues, and leading mechanical upgrades.
  • Ability to read/interpret mechanical schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with maintenance and production teams.
  • Electrical safety certification a plus.
