Automation & Controls Engineer
Location: Lancaster, PA
Compensation:
$100,000 to $115,000 plus bonus
A rapidly growing industrial organization is seeking an Automation & Controls Engineer to support company-wide initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability, automation performance, and long-term sustainability. This role will lead efforts to modernize and standardize control systems across multiple sites, focusing on obsolescence mitigation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the organization’s Machine Obsolescence Mitigation Plan to ensure sustained reliability of existing systems.
- Track and oversee critical control components such as sensors, drives, PLCs, and HMIs across facilities.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automation systems and electrical drives.
- Develop and refine PM and PdM programs based on data insights to enhance system uptime and efficiency.
- Spearhead automation projects including system design, installation, and retrofits.
- Evaluate and implement upgrades to existing automation systems for increased reliability and throughput.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as Maintenance, Production, Quality, and IT.
- Deliver technical training to Maintenance Technicians and Operators on new systems and updates.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable safety and regulatory standards.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of control systems, projects, and troubleshooting protocols.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentorship to site maintenance teams.
- Integrate emerging automation technologies and standards into daily practices.
- Design, update, and manage electrical schematics for equipment and systems.
- Configure and program PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs using modern platforms.
- Standardize and document automation solutions across all operational sites.
- Monitor and maintain equipment tracking and performance systems, addressing issues proactively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience in automation or electrical engineering within an industrial or manufacturing setting
- Strong proficiency in control platforms including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ABB, and Yaskawa
- Experience programming in C++, Python, and Visual Basic
- Skilled in AutoCAD and the design of electrical schematics
- Understanding of network topology and industrial communication protocols
- Preferred: Experience writing APIs, NEC (NFPA 70) certification, and/or ISA CAP certification
- Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills
